CONTACT LENS REMINDERS! Print

*** PREVENTING CORNEAL INFECTIONS ***

Although we can never completely eliminate contact lens-related infections, these steps by lens wearers can help!

1. Always wash your hands with soap and water before handling your contact lenses.
2. Follow the recommended wearing schedule and replace your contact lenses as instructed.
Don't be tempted to overwear your contacts!
3. Follow the specific lens cleaning and storage guidelines from your eye doctor.
Don't deviate from the guidelines you were given.
4.Always use fresh solution and replenish ALL of the solution daily. Do not ever "top off" or reuse your solution.
After inserting your contacts, rinse the contact lens case with warm water, and allow to air dry during the day.
5. Clean the case after each use; keep it clean and dry until refilling with fresh solution. Replace every 3 months.
6. If you experience symptoms such as redness, pain, increased light sensitivity,
blurry vision, discharge or swelling, remove your contacts immediately, and call your doctor.
7. Using "No Rub" solution is fine, but you still need to rub and rinse your contacts for their best performance.
8. Remove contact lenses before swimming, showering, or engaging in other water based activities.
9. If you have difficulty removing your lenses, try "floating" them by adding artificial tears and closing your eyes for a moment. Sometimes dryness can cause problems with removal!

If you have any questions about contact lens care, please consult our office, or check this website, under Eye Cyclopedia for more information.
